How to Get Through Your School Problems!
Hello again :P
Okay, so I know generally all of my posts are about random things, and I think it's about time to do, I don't know, a Q&A maybe? However, considering I haven't received any questions, I'll be answering generalized questions that I think you might want answers too.
Let's get started...
I've just started at a new school, and I still don't feel comfortable. How do I fit in?
I myself have been through this experience, which is why I chose this as a question. I think my advice would be to be confident, hold your head up high, however do not act too forward or "too good" for any of your classmates if that makes any sense. Don't force anything, try to find people you fit in with, just keep your nerves cool, be nice and be yourself!
I want to be able to shine through this year and really express myself through my individual style. How do I do this?
The best way to express yourself is to find "staples" in your wardrobe that really represent you, or something that you would like people to know you by. For example, if you are someone who likes to stay casual and comfortable, pick a pair of jeans, leggings, or anything that you feel secure and just generally yourself in. If you like to be a bit more stylish or trendy, dress it up with jewellery. You can layer necklaces and bracelets, choose solid or printed chiffon shirts, over a pair of black leggings or black jeans. If you want to be edgy, pick bold pieces, such as cropped tops over camisoles for appropriateness, paired with a leather jacket, and maybe a pair of slightly chunky boots.
I have a huge crush on this really cute boy in my class! What do I do?
First of all, take a step back. I know it sounds funny, but take a moment to prioritize. Unless you've already reached a point in your life where you're ready for your next step. I'm guessing most of you reading this are in your teens, going through high school or finishing up middle school. I'd say for now, just try and move your focus onto things like school work, friends, family, etc. However, if this is something that you really need to address, tell a friend, get their advice, and maybe if you feel it's necessary, tell this person.
OR
Go ahead and come out with it. At the end of the day, there's only two outcomes to addressing this. Either he likes you back or he doesn't. If you decide to go with this option, you've got to emotionally prepare yourself, there's a 50/50 chance, don't forget it.
I've been feeling left out by my friends. We're in different classes, and I barely get to talk to them anymore as well. How can I fix this?
Tell them how you feel. Real friends will try and help you feel better, if not, they're not worth keeping. Sometimes, change can be the best medicine. You don't need to jump right out and ditch your friends, but you can always reach out to someone during class, offer them some help, or even just say a simple hello. Maybe try and say hi to the girl/guy sitting alone at lunch, maybe sit with them. Friends can be found in any place, any time, don't ever forget it.
I've been struggling with my weight. Everyone else is so slim and I feel like a bloated pea in a bowl little tiny shrimpy peas (sorry for the wording). How can I change my outlook on myself?
Everyday, look at yourself in the mirror at least once and say (out loud) "I love my body". Yes, at first it might feel forced, but eventually you'll really start to feel it. Now, don't get offended by this, but maybe try getting involved in a physical activity. Try joining a fitness club, or a gym, or maybe a trying a sport. A really common sport to participate in is dance, I'd specifically suggest a beginners hip hop class. There was a point of my life too (uhm, puberty) where my hips started to become more apparent and I was wondering if they would ever shrink back down. And then I shot up a bit, and it smoothed out a bit. To me however, I was never really bothered with my weight. Nevertheless, had I been in a situation where I knew I had to do something and make a change, I really would have gone straight to exercise.
I've been going through some really bad anxiety lately. How do I get through it?
I wanted to include a question about anxiety because it's been something that has recently affected me too. I will soon be doing a blog post on the sole purpose of explaining my story, but for now I'm just going to generalize this. Anxiety affects EVERYONE! Yes, you are not alone. It's not a disease, as I once thought, and there's nothing wrong with you for feeling that way. For now, I'll give you one piece of advice, instead of thinking "ANXIETY, ANXIETY, ANXIETY" think of anything else. Literally, ANYTHING else. Like this, "HAMBURGER, HAMBURGER, HAMBURGER" or simply "NO, NO, NO".
Everything seems to be going downhill. My grades are dropping, I'm losing friends, etc. How can I get my life back on track.
For this one, I think you need to sit back, and take a nice fresh breath of air. Talk to your guidance councillor, if you're in high school, about it, and perhaps ask if she/he could write your parents a note asking for a few days off. While you're off, maybe take a nice little family road trip, go spend a couple of nights at a cottage, or if you live in the bustling city, just drive out a bit and go experience the countryside a bit. Another thing you can do is really sit down, by yourself or with a parent/guardian/trusted adult, and truly revaluate what's going on. There could be a deeper meaning to the stress, however I don't suggest sitting down with a friend (unless it's an extremely mature friend) as their probable suggestion will just be "there's nothing wrong with you, suck it up". And although it is true, there is nothing wrong with you, sometimes, being a little more gentle won't hurt.
I hate my teacher/teacher, and my councillor has told me there's no way to get my classes switched, what do I do?
The only thing you can do, is really just try and get through it. Really, if you think about it, every school is just 10 months. Sure that seems like a lot, but like I said earlier, if you keep your mind focused on work, friends, etc, and keep yourself busy, it will fly by. I haven't mentioned this so far, at least I don't think I have, but, I think the easiest way to make life a bit better is by setting goals, or having something to look forward too. For example, I keep note of everything I have upcoming. Something like a birthday, or a gift for that matter will stick like a post-it note (which actually isn't saying much since they lose their stickiness quite fast) in my mind from the moment I get invited, to the moment I get there. And, although I'm focused on other stuff, the fact that there's going to be something fun at the end of the tunnel makes the journey all the more worth it.
I want to do so much in life, and I feel like being here in school is dragging me behind. Do I really have to do this?
Yes, you really do. Whether you go to university or not is really up to you and your family, but whether you go to high school or middle school, although it may be "optional", is really mandatory. It may not seem important now, but the things that we're learning will one day come back and help us in life, whether it's in math, whether it's in history, one day, we'll be able to answers peoples questions and feel proud about it. About the wanting to do so much in life, doesn't everyone? When I was a little girl, my dream was to be a ballerina, until it was to be writer, until it was to be a swimmer, until it was to just want to do myself proud. It doesn't matter what you're doing, if you're not happy, it's not worth it. That being said, what I'm trying to say it that being a doctor is just as rewarding as being a singer. Being a firefighter, although ten times more dangerous, is just as rewarding as being an actor. The people that really deserve the recognition don't get it. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be the next Taylor Swift or Miley Cyrus (okay actually, I take back the Miley Cyrus part. That girl ruined my childhood), but when you've achieved that goal, don't let it get to you, make it your life goal to let people know about the others, the firefighters, the accountants, the doctors, the servers and even the janitorial staff. We all have dreams, not everyone gets to live them, so live your life to the fullest and live with no regrets.
Okay, that's all for right now. I realize I haven't posted for about a week, so I apologise. Anyways, thanks for all of you who read this, hopefully this helped you, maybe gave you a bit of a boost of confidence. And I really have to say, my readership really isn't that high, but seriously I feel so free and able on this social platform, like I'm limitless. For those of you who may be contemplating on what to write for your first blog post, just write from your heart and I guarantee the world will love it!
That's all for now,
