The Selection by Kiera Cass (Book Review)
Hi there guys!
So, it's been a while since I posted, but I'm back and will (hopefully) be posting regularly from now on. I think the reason it's so difficult for me to post is because I like to do a little bit of everything, and sometimes it can be difficult to incorporate so many different themes and topics into one blog, and it kind of becomes a little overwhelming.
I have a little announce to make...so I know it's not much, but my blog is close to hitting 1000 views! I'm someone who gets really excited over the little things, so this is actually kind of a (small) big deal for me and it makes me really happy. I would, would really appreciate it if you guys could follow my blog because I would really love to get feedback as well as hear what you guys would like me to post about. Today I'm doing another book review (shocker) on The Selection by Kiera Cass, which I actually read a couple of weeks ago, but just never got around to reviewing. Hope you enjoy!
My Rating: 3/5 Stars

Contrary to my usual book-finding habits, I stumbled upon this book a few years ago when it was still relatively new . Okay, so maybe "stumbled" is a bit of an understatement- by the time I'd found the book it had already gained immense popularity in the YA community and (let's be honest), there was absolutely no way any booklover would not have heard of it.
To me, the covers were definitely intriguing but (PLEASE DON'T HURT ME) not amazing. Regardless of the slightly lackluster cover art however, I did feel that it helped give the reader insight into what the book was really about, because one of my BIGGEST PET PEEVES when it comes to books is when the cover is COMPLETELY unrelated to the story of the book. I know you're not supposed to judge books by their covers, but due to the toxicity of today's society (look at me, using big words) that's exactly what I tend to do.
Moving on...
I loved the idea of this book being kind of like a futuristic literary version of The Bachelor which, despite being one of the stupidest shows in the world, is vastly entertaining. America is really not looking for a lifestyle change when we meet her at the beginning of this book. She's living a pretty unglamorous, yet still romantically fulfilling life as a Five. Honestly, being a Five seems like it could be pretty fun, with the exception that money isn't really a necessity but more so a luxury. When America moves to the Palace to participate in the Selection, her life basically changes entirely. Regardless of when she is sent home, America has already secured a better life for her family.
The one thing that really lacked for me in this novel was the essence of romance. Now I know, this is supposed to be more a dystopian novel than a romance novel however, I thought America's relationships with either Aspen or Maxon could've been at least slightly elaborated. Whilst America's relationship with Aspen has lasted significantly longer, and is... how do I put this ...more legitimate, her relationship with Maxon seems way more genuine and healthy.
So...Team Aspen or Team Maxon? Like I mentioned, America and Maxon's relationship seems a lot healthier and happier and I absolutely ship it . No holds barred. Plus Aspen just seems kind of like a (excuse my language) jackass. AGAIN, PLEASE DON'T HURT ME, ALL YOU ASPEN FANS.
K Bye. See ya next time.

P.S: HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE MAXON'S NAME? I'VE BEEN MENTALLY PRONOUNCING IT MASON THIS ENTIRE TIME AND I NEED TO KNOW!?!?
